Mythbusters may be wrapped in the US, but separating truth from fiction is far from over in Japan.
The subject of this experiment is one of Japan’s most popular contributions to the world: anime. From exploring moving castles to picking up girls in a dungeon, the curious medium is often far from realistic, with one particular trope more titilating than others; anime physics, or in this case, the ability to upskirt a girl with a gust of wind.
And because otaku are nothing if not optimistic, comedy duo Downtown decided to put anime physics under a microscope to demonstrate to fans once and for all just how possible a gust of wind flipping up a schoolgirl’s skirt is.
The experiment employed three methods to produce a skirt flip, beginning with Japanese national soccer team member Naoki Ihara. With a young judge standing by for possible panty action, Naoki set his marks roughly 30 feet behind their beautiful subject.
Ultimately, it takes a Porsche doing 110 kilometers (68 miles) per hour before one can answer the timeless question of insanity- solid or striped. However, be aware that 110 kilometers per hour is far above even expressway speed limits in Japan, so this is a phenomena you’re unlikely to observe on the streets here.
But there’s always anime.
