This week on POP Showcase we're talking to Lorinell Yu, co-creator of Servant & Lord.

Since childhood, Christian has been attached to Daniel, a talented composer and a real looker. Music was the beginning of a friendship between a naughty boy and a sophisticated young man. But is it just friendly feelings?

Q&A WITH LORINELL YU

How did you learn to draw? Did you study or are you self-taught?

I am self-taught. I drew from childhood as long as I can remember. Especially I loved to draw cartoon heroes. First it was Disney characters, and then anime and manga. But after high school, I chose another profession. It seems it was in vain. I'm back to drawing in the end! :)

Do you have any favorite tools you use in your art?

Oh, it's definitely watercolor. It have a very bright rich color. Also it looks transparent and so light on paper. I think watercolor is the best tool to show how beautiful ordinary things around us can be.

What are some of your favorite manga?

In BL genre one of my favorite manga is Lover's Doll (by Mishima Kazuhiko). I'm in love with this story and re-read it from time to time. In other genres the best manga for me is Hikaru no Go. Hikaru's history is not only interesting and fascinating, but it also teaches not to give up and to achieve our goals no matter what. I'm very grateful to the creators of this masterpiece.

What was the inspiration behind Servant & Lord?

In the past, sometimes I wanted to draw manga. But to start my own story something was missing. I just didn't have the right motivation. For making Servant & Lord I was inspired by two things. Firstly, I was bored :) Every day I went to my boring work and every day was the same. Secondly, by a lucky chance I came across a book that turned my world upside down. When I read it has brought out a lot of positive emotions to me. I thought "Jeez! It's so beautiful! I want to create wonderful love stories like this." Right after that I asked [co-creator] Lo if we could work together. And we started the creation of Servant & Lord.

Are you working on anything new right now?

Currently I'm working on character concepts for a new BL story. The idea was born not long ago and still nameless. I hope in a few months I can show something to readers.

What advice do you have for new creators?

Aim to be better and improve your skills every day. Don't stop on the achievements, because you can do much more.
