Wake early, work late, go for mandatory drinks with coworkers and clients, sleep a few hours, and then do it all again. And again. And again. Until you retire or die, whichever comes first. Decades of being exhausted and overworked. Sound depressingly monotonous and monotonously depressing? This is the typical professional life of the Japanese salaryman and OL (office lady).
Japanese Twitter user @black9arrows has created an ongoing comic that depicts the life of a single OL, and it’s so spot-on that you might share some tears with the weepy protagonist. Follow OL-chan as she suffers through the work week and celebrates the weekends.
‘A single OL who has come to hate everything.’
‘A single OL whose smartphone charges as she sleeps.’
‘A single OL who sleeps with her futon over her head.’
‘A single OL stripping away the calendar.’
‘A single OL wakes from a good dream.’
See more OL-chan comics here.
When you realize a real person is behind the sad adventures of OL-chan, the comic hits that much harder. Follow @black9arrows on Twitter and show her and OL-chan some support! Ganbatte ne!
