A UNESCO World Heritage site located in Higashiyama, Kyoto, Kiyomizu Temple, which means “pure water,” takes its name from the waterfall which runs off the nearby hillside. It is famous for its grand veranda offering breathtaking views of Kyoto and the surrounding hillsides. Tourists and locals alike flock to the temple for the gorgeous views of cherry blossoms in the Springtime, the bright red maple leaves in the Autumn, and the yearly illuminations. This writer has ventured to Kiyomizu multiple times for momiji photo ops and to draw my fortune. Visitors can also drink the water from one of the three waterfall streams, choosing either academic success, love or a long life, write and hang their own ema (votive tablet), or check out the “love stones.” Legend has it that those who can successfully walk between the stones with their eyes closed will find true love. Now, thanks to Kiyomizu Temple setting up its own dedicated Instagram account, feel_kiyomizudera, we can get daily photos from this World Heritage site that are flat amazeballz. And just in time for cherry blossom season in the coming months! The account has gained over 58,000 followers since its creation last September, and it’s easy to see why. Check out some of their posts below and follow them yourself for more awesome photos!
