Founded in 2008, the Network of Asian Fantastic Films (NAFF), a multifaceted, in-depth industry program for global genre film professionals, has provided invaluable programs for all film-related fields, including film development, co-production, financing, and post-production, solidifying its place as a leader of the Asian genre film market.
When Shenmue 3 was announced during E3, the whole world went crazy. Series creator Yu Suzuki was teasing it a day before, but no one really could have expected it given the game’s 13 year hiatus. Less than twelve hours after the Sony show, Shenmue 3 hit its $2 million funding goal. It probably would have taken even less time, but for the first hour or so, the Shenmue announcement actually took down Kickstarter altogether.
The last time I went to San Diego Comic-Con International was in 2007. Lots of changes going on around me of a very personal nature, the Cartoon Geeks podcast was on its way out, and me and my Cartoon Geeks compadre Tom Reed were staying in a cheesy motel-stretching-for-hotel in Mission Valley, the only place we could find anywhere near Con.
Anime Expo has gotten so huge that it is impossible to take it all in. Unfortunately that means missing out on some really cool stuff! If we had only known a group of three cosplayers had taken the time and trouble to cosplay some of our favorite TOKYOPOP global manga characters, we'd have brought them up on stage with us at our panel for sure.
This autumn, for the first time in 30 years, the iconic crime-adventure anime Lupin III is once again gracing television screens with a brand new series. To further excitement, a series of either Lupin-inspired fan-art or really, really clever guerilla advertising of the chain-smoking Jigen is also gracing tobacco shutters throughout Italy.
